چکیده

An acceptability of segment duration changes in different speaking rates was studied to know perceptual characteristics for designing an objective naturalness measure in speech synthesis. Based on a series of our studies on intra-phrase positional dependency of perceptual acceptability, where listeners were more sensitive to the phrase-initial segment duration than the phrase-final one, we designed perceptual experiments using speech at three rates (fast, normal and slow) with or without a carrier sentence. The duration of each vowel at different phrase positions was either lengthened or shortened from 10 ms to 50 ms and listeners evaluated the acceptability of these changes. The results showed that the acceptability declined more rapidly as a speaking rate became faster and that the difference of acceptability declination between intraphrase positions was consistent. These results serve as fundamental data of speaking-rate dependent acceptability characteristics for designing an objective temporal naturalness.

CHANGE OF SPLASH EROSION RATE IN RAINFALL DIFFERENT DURATION AND INTENSITY ON MARL SOILS

Splash erosion is recognized as the first stage in the process of erosion that results in bombardment of the soil's surface with rain drops. Two basic processes in soil erosion are the dispersion of soil particles by rain drops and the changes caused to the soil's structure, which are then moved by runoff. In this research, the effect of various rainfall intensity (60, 90 and 120 mm/hr) on the ...

Effects of Intra-phrase Position on a Segmental Duration in Se

Perceptual evaluation experiments were carried out on the acceptability of segmental duration change in a sentence. The intraphrase positional effects were systematically analyzed using synthesized speech stimuli in which one of the vowel segments was either lengthened or shortened. Statistical analyses showed that acceptability degradation due to duration changes was greater at the initial and...

Frequency Effects of Regular Past Tense Forms in English on Native Speakers’ and Second Language Learners’ Accuracy Rate and Reaction Time

There is substantial debate over the mental representation of regular past tense forms in both first language (L1) and second language (L2) processing. Specifically, the controversy revolves around the nature of morphologically complex forms such as the past tense –ed in English and how morphological structures of such forms are represented in the mental lexicon. This study focuses on the resul...
